PATH’s Impact
PATH has worked to build power across the county and state to win on issues that directly impact real people's lives. The secret to PATH’s success lies in our commitment to identify and develop leaders in every community where we work. We rely on a radical tactic: We meet people face-to-face and build relationships that help to re-knit the frayed social fabric of our life. We don’t seek justice and social change for people, we seek change with people. We tackle big problems by breaking them down into issues that can be addressed. We build power by building community. We win our biggest victories by listening to what is needed, finding like-minded people to work with us for change, and engaging leaders who can help us to achieve our goals. Here are just a few of our key victories.
Home Care for Seniors
PATH received an award from the AARP of Maryland for our successful work on this campaign.
900 Units of Affordable Housing in Downtown Columbia
In 2016, Howard County launched a private-public partnership to build 6,400 housing units to fulfill the plan to create a walkable and vibrant downtown Columbia.
Increased Affordable Housing and New Library
PATH played a key role in supporting and getting the County Council to fund a world class library and the development of a minimum of 240 units of housing in downtown
Complete Streets
For years, residents of the Historic Black Community of Guilford were isolated. When they walked their dogs or to get exercise, they would often walk in small circles on the only side streets that were accessible to them.
Women’s Swimming Time
What started as an issue in the Muslim community for women who wanted the opportunity to use swimming as their exercise and to spend time with their kids at the pool, turned into much more.
Affordable Housing and New Cultural Center
PATH was key to winning funding for arts access and affordable housing through the mixed-use New Cultural Center project.
New Buses and Full-Day Head Start
PATH worked with families to successfully push the county to buy new buses for the Head Start Program, and to move all of the students to full-day programming.
Healthy Kids in School
PATH worked with our partners at the Horizon Foundation to get the school board to significantly change the school health policies in the Howard County Public Schools.
